The article tells that the opening of Kiev university took place on the 15 th of July, 1834. It had two faculties: the Law faculty and the faculty of Philosophy. That year, 62 students were admitted to the university. 35 of them were admitted to the Law faculty. At present, there are 17 faculties at Kiev university, as well as two institutes, an observatory, a botanical garden, 127 laboratories. About 20 000 students study there, over 2 thousand studying at the Law faculty. The article tells about the foundation and development of law science in its particular branches the process of teaching law students is given attention to. The characteristics of fundamental scientific works in the field of law science of outstanding pre-revolution and soviet scholars are given in the article.
